Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization – or, more commonly referred to as SEO – is the art of ranking high on a search engine (nearly always Google) in the unpaid section for specific keywords.
Umm, what was that again?
In plain English, SEO is the process of optimizing your website and online content in a way that makes Google happy. When we make Google happy, Google will reward us by showing our content first for specific queries typed into its search bar. Luckily for you, all Sun & Soil Design packages come with SEO included.
Why bother?
Great SEO leads to more traffic and more sales!
Can’t buy from a webite you can’t find – am I right?
There are two types of search engine optimization: On-site and off-site.
All websites created by Sun & Soil Design include expertly-crafted on-site SEO.
So, what’s the difference between on-site and off-site?
On-site SEO
On-site search engine optimization (or on-page SEO) is the process of adjusting necessary website elements to rank higher on Google. This process earns more relevant and organic traffic from your target market. Basically, it’s optimizing both the content and the code of a website.
This type of SEO includes content length, specific keywords, Google indexing, image optimization, and even how fast your site loads.
All Sun & Soil Design websites come with on-site SEO included.
Off-site SEO
Off-site search engine optimization refers to the activities you and your visitors do away from your website that increases the ranking of a page in the eyes of Google. Most commonly, off-site SEO refers to backlinks and social shares.
If another business finds your content memorable, enlightening, or jam-packed with amazing information, it will add your link to a piece of their content. The more traffic the site linking to you has, the better for your visibility and growth.
The same can be said for social media. The more shares your content gets, the further reach your link will have.
Why does your website need search engine optimization?
You can think of SEO as the sunlight and water needed to grow a new plant. You can have a healthy seed (business idea) and crazy-rich soil (website), but without sunlight (on-site SEO) and water (off-site SEO), your plant won’t flourish like you want it to.
Hey, I’m beginning to understand why you’re called Sun & Soil Design…
You could have a gorgeous website and a product or service that has a tremendous amount of demand that will fall flat without expert-level SEO – simply because few people will see it. The higher your website ranks in results pages, the more traffic and clicks your site will generate. You’ll be given the chance to turn more visitors into more customers.
On-site SEO also improves user experience, making it more likely that customers will buy twice or more. In comparison to pay-per-click advertising or paid ads on social, SEO is cost-effective and brings in targeted and organic (a.ka. free) traffic.
So what do you actually do?
